While the Affordable Care Act Is Helping Seniors Save on Drug Costs, The Doughnut Hole Remains an Issue Says The Canadian Pharmacy

A recent announcement by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services that the nearly 7 million U.S. people with Medicare coverage are saving an average of $1000 per person under the Affordable Care Act. Yet the “Doughnut Hole” remains a significant issue.

Winnipeg, Manitoba (PRWEB)

The sometimes-controversial Affordable Care Act (ACA) has saved Medicare consumers nearly $7 billion dollars according to a recent announcement by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. While the debate rages on about how various parts of the ACA, sometimes referred to as “Obamacare,” will play out, the benefits of the law are already visible, and millions of Americans are taking advantage of them.

While this is excellent news for the millions of people who have healthcare coverage through Medicare, the “Doughnut Hole” still continues to be a problem for many. “Doughnut Hole” is the nickname given to the provision in the Medicare Reform Act that requires patients to pay a larger percentage of their own medications after their Medicare prescription drug coverage has paid a certain amount ($2,970 in 2013). Medicare will again cover the full cost of their medications once they reach the catastrophic coverage limit ($7,720 in 2013), but for people with hefty prescription drug bills, the “Doughnut Hole” can cause a great deal of stress and financial worry.

The Affordable Care Act has provisions in place to close the “Doughnut Hole”, but it will be a gradual process taking place over a period of years. In the meantime, seniors and others with Medicare coverage continue to face challenges paying the high prices of their medications.

David Zimmer, president of The Canadian Pharmacy, an online pharmacy dedicated to providing affordable medication and other pharmaceutical products to patients both locally and internationally, states, “At The Canadian Pharmacy, we’re pleased to see the steps being taken by the United States to ensure that everyone has access to affordable healthcare, and it’s exciting to see the savings beginning to add up.” He adds, “Patients who are still struggling with high drug prices in the Medicare ‘Doughnut Hole’ should know that importing medication for personal use through online Canadian pharmacies is an excellent way to save money and still receive high-quality prescription medications.”

The Canadian Pharmacy, certified by both the Canadian International Pharmacies Association (CIPA) and the Manitoba International Pharmacists Association (MIPA), has been providing high-quality, affordable pharmaceuticals to patients seeking a break from high drug costs for the past 10 years.
